I have not read vigilant. In One Hundred Years of Solitude if one of the main points is that time seems to repeat itself. The reasons everyone has the names of almost indistinguishable is that the next generation is like everything the past and appear to merge into a collage of events rather than a timeline with points on it. The other issue that seems to stand out with a hundred, is that time despite appears to be a repeat cycle or not is a progressive degeneration of the world, from the beginning (when the world was something new that had not yet been named and it was necessary to point) to the edge of town (the apocalyptic storm that blew the way of the people) is moving further and further from the Garden of Eden.

The reasons that everyone knows the names of nearly impossible to distinction is that the next generation is like all the past and seem to blend into a collage of events rather than a calendar with points on that. The other issue that seems to stand out with a hundred, is that time, although seems to be a repeat cycle or is not a progressive degeneration of the world, from the beginning (when the world was something new that had not yet been appointed and it was necessary to point) on the outskirts of the city (the apocalyptic storm that blew the way of the population) moves more and more of the Garden of Eden.
