I need help with using an FTP program?

I've never used an FTP program before and now I have to use one for the transfer of Comics to the "reader mobi comic "application on my iPod touch. I was looking through some pages of support and he was talking about creating accounts and servers host. I have no idea what is what some detailed instructions would be greatly appreciated.
